Baldo Trasporti SpA: history of European connections

Baldo Trasporti SpA, associated with Confindustria Trento from fifty years, exemplifies tradition and modernization, embracing innovation and sustainability.

“WE CONTINUE to do this work with the same enthusiasm; a passion handed down from father to son, which has allowed us to reach the fourth generation, with the entry into the company of the great-grandchildren. Pamela Baldo, third generation in charge, thus summarizes the entrepreneurial spirit and renewed energy that animates Baldo Trasporti SpA, a Trentino-Südtirol protagonist in the controlled-temperature transport sector for almost a hundred years.

Tullio Baldo, the founder, had started the business in Nomi in the 1930s, when, with a single gas generator vehicle, he began to transport wood throughout Trentino region. Interpreter of a long history, in 2023 the company celebrated fifty years of association with Confindustria Trento. After the first years of activity, the company was established as a joint-stock company at the end of the Second World War, specializing in refrigerated transport, particularly for imports and exports with Germany. “Following this upgrade, says Pamela, the company moved its headquarters to a new warehouse with an adjoining spacious warehouse and a large car park. In the new factory, facing the growing turnover and the constant increase in orders, we have expanded our services by building an internal workshop (which also works to assist third-party company vehicles), positioning a new weighbridge and installing a modern wash. Thanks to its solid experience and widespread network of international relationships, almost ninety years after its foundation, Baldo Trasporti SpA. is today a modern and efficient company, synonymous with guarantee and professionalism, a point of reference in the controlled-temperature transport sector”.

Under the leadership of Armando Baldo (in the picture), Tullio’s son, who today runs the company with his son Nicola and his grandchildren Pamela and Alessandro, the company has 45 employees: “We are a big family”, underlines Pamela. “We work together in sharing common targets to meet the needs of our Customers.
We deal with refrigerated transport of fruit and vegetables, frozen foods and food, but also pharmaceuticals and chemical products at controlled temperatures”.

A strong bond with the territory guides Baldo’s company policies. Where possible, employees are local. This especially for the white-collar sector while, for drivers and mechanics, Baldo employs staff are from Eastern Europe (Serbs and Romanians) and Morocco.

The reference markets cover all of Europe, with particular attention to Germany, which still remains the main market for Baldo Trasporti. To satisfy the requests of German Customers and to reach all other destinations in Europe, where the company works for the most important international players, Baldo moves 50 vehicles every day: this is the overall fleet. “Our vehicles – continues Pamela – are all Euro 6, recently purchased in the last 2 years. We pay great attention to the health of our fleet. Every four years we change the vehicles to always have the best of what the market offers.”

The renewal of the vehicles is also accompanied by a small technological revolution: “We are busy testing and implementing a new software system that allows us to provide new and up-to-date services to our Customers and improve others already in use. We want to enhance the monitoring of our vehicles during the journey to give our partners the opportunity to always know where they are. This is a service that we are already offering, but which we will provide with important innovations, with an App dedicated to our customers for smartphones and tablets. The system we are working on will also allow us to prepare all the bureaucratic and paperwork related to shipping and transport of goods, so as to speed up and streamline working times.
Finally, the same system will provide useful information to the driver to identify in real time the quickest and most appropriate route to reach the destination”.
In step with the times, the Baldo family is also changing the face of their company towards a green economy for energy supply. “We have equipped our factory with a photovoltaic system – concludes Pamela Baldo – which we use to power the refrigeration systems.
